Sporting complex bonanza for Hills

Residents will have more opportunity to play and participate in sport after Council moved to adopt three masterplans for proposed sporting complexes in The Hills.

Samantha Riley Drive Reserve and Stringer Road Reserve, both located in North Kellyville and Brindle Parkway Reserve in Box Hill have now been approved and will all proceed to detailed design stage followed by construction planning.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said the Hills Shire is a growing community and more sporting complexes were needed to meet demand.

"We understand there is a real need for more fields, sporting complexes and green spaces, especially in the newer parts of The Hills Shire, including Box Hill and North Kellyville," Mayor Byrne said.

"I'm so proud this Council is in a position to deliver not one, but three sporting complexes. These new complexes will allow residents to have more opportunity to participate in grass roots sports, as well as passive recreation, such as enjoying the local playground and using the shared pathway network.

"It's also a win as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, as these sporting complexes will support many jobs during the construction phase," Mayor Byrne added.

Brindle Parkway Reserve has been proposed to include two full-sized playing fields with a cricket wicket.

Meanwhile, Samantha Riley Drive Reserve has been designed to provide four sporting fields and two cricket ovals.

And Stringer Road Reserve is planned to include four multipurpose fields.

All three reserves will include amenities buildings, sports field lighting, playgrounds, internal recreation pathway networks and carparking.

Following community consultation, cricket practice nets and basketball facilities have also been incorporated in the masterplans.
