Spring is the perfect time to head outside, reconnect with your neighbourhood and give your local area a fresh start.
Whether it is a local park, walking trail, street or community space, choose a place that matters to you, gather your clean up crew and help make it cleaner, safer and more welcoming for everyone.
Litter can travel beyond where it was dropped. Wind and rain can carry rubbish into bushland, parks and waterways. Removing it early helps protect local wildlife and prevents rubbish from spreading further through the environment.
The scale of the challenge is clear. In 2025, more than 900 Clean Up events were held across Australia. Cigarette butts were the most common item collected, while plastic accounted for more than 80 per cent of all litter removed by volunteers.
This September and October, the City of Swan is encouraging residents to get involved in the Great Spring Clean Up – a chance to bring together family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and community groups in the places we live, work and play.
Thousands of Australians have already registered - and there's still time to join them.

Every piece of rubbish removed is a small step towards a much cleaner environment. And when people come together, those small actions can make a big difference.
