Students in the Yarra Ranges now have access to first-rate new information and communication technology facilities, as part of major refurbishments to Monbulk College thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino today joined students and teachers in officially opening the school’s new $7.57 million facility.

The striking architecturally designed building houses four general purpose classrooms, a staff lounge, office space and two ICT rooms.

The new developments are part of more than $20 million worth of upgrades and investments underway at Monbulk College to give students access to cutting-edge 21st century learning facilities.

Previous stages already completed have included a new two-storey administration and resource building featuring new classrooms, a library and toilets, as well as a new $8,700 adjustable basketball hoop.

Future upgrades include a new arts and fabric classrooms and improvements to the oval. New lighting for the oval and ground surface improvement have already been delivered, with new change rooms also set to be completed.

An additional $935,000 has been invested to commence planning for the delivery of the $9.3 million election commitment from the Labor Government to deliver upgraded home economics and general purpose classrooms.

Mr Merlino also announced the school would receive an additional $631,000 through the recent Labor Government School Maintenance Blitz, to upgrade the school gym to improve its Shelters in Place standards for fire. The extra funding will allow for upgrades to improve the place of last resort for the community during the fire season.

These facilities will help Monbulk College build on its long-standing reputation for excellence and consolidate its strong focus on science, technology and the arts.

The Labor Government has invested $6.1 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades, supporting over 7500 construction jobs for Victorians.

A total of 100 new schools will open by 2026 under the Labor Government’s school building boom, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.

This building boom will continue over the coming years, with the government delivering 11 new schools across the state due to open in 2020.
