The City of Greater Geelong encourages people to 'Wear It Purple' on 30 August in celebration of diversity and young people from the LGBTIQA+ community.
Wear it Purple Day is an annual LGBTIQA+ awareness day especially for young people.
It is promoted by Minus18, a student run, not-for-profit organisation, that provides presentations and workshops surrounding acceptance and collaboration.
Wear it Purple is based in Australia and strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for young people from the LGBTIQA+ community.
The City of Greater Geelong Youth Department will lead Wear It Purple Day, as one of three annual days that we celebrate for the community; Wear It Purple Day, IDAHOBIT and National Coming Out Day.
The City of Greater Geelong is proudly working alongside Barwon Health, Department of Ed, Victoria Police, Geelong Rainbow Inc., Deakin, and Worksafe on various inclusion events, projects, and functions, and assist each other in workplace advocacy.

Now is the time to celebrate and promote the value of diversity and inclusion in our community.I encourage community members to wear purple on 30 August, and stand with us on the steps of City Hall at 4pm to be part of a movement that has the potential to save thousands of lives through the power of acceptance.
