- Cook Labor Government to invest $40.7 million to support up to 111 new lots in Broome North residential estate
- Delivery of new lots part of government's continued focus on ensuring more housing opportunities for first home buyers and renters
- State Budget 2026-27 investment recognises the need for more housing in key regional centre in the Kimberley
The Cook Labor Government will support the delivery of up to 111 new lots in the Broome North residential estate.
The investment in the 2026-27 State Budget will boost housing supply in Broome, supporting the key regional centre's economic growth.
The $40.7 million spend, supported by a $12million operating subsidy to DevelopmentWA, will enable the creation of 111 lots, including 33 lots for social housing dwellings, within Gujarra Local Structure Plan 2 Broome North.
The delivery of these lots will help meet housing demand including from major projects now in operation, such as Kimberley Mineral Sands and Kimberley Marine Support Base, which are generating hundreds of jobs.
DevelopmentWA released an initial seven vacant blocks at Waranyjarri Estate in November, and high demand saw a further 14 blocks released in Stage 13 in March.
Sub-division approval is already in place for the new lots, with construction expected to start later in 2026.
The 111 lots are expected to be completed in three stages over two years.
The $40.7 million investment is part of the Cook Labor Government's record housing investment since 2021, including the delivery of new and expanded residential estates in regional communities.
As stated by Planning and Lands Minister John Carey:
The Cook Labor Government is committed to unlocking land for new housing supply and this investment will significantly expand the Broome North estate.
"It will deliver more housing opportunities locally and support the continued growth of this key regional centre."
As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:
"The Cook Labor Government is committed to boosting housing supply for Broome locals and creating more opportunities for local families to live and work in the community - this budget continues that focus.
"We have recently completed the Tanami Drive extension and Broome North Childcare, ensuring Broome's growing population has the services and amenities it needs."
