The State Flying Squad (SFS) have ended their biggest deployment to the Far North, with 15 officers traveling to provide extra boots on the ground over 10 days, as part of an ongoing enforcement action to drive down property crime in the region.
During their deployment, SFS officers charged 32 adults with 72 offences, and 17 young people on 46 offences.
In collaboration with local officers and other specialist units, 360 adults have been charged with 1482 offences and 170 young people were charged with 378 offences since this enforcement action began in the Far North on 9 August.
Charges included property offences, drug-related offences, domestic violence offences and bail breaches.
Officers located drug utensils while executing an arrest warrant at a McLeod Street address in Cairns North, leading them to search the property and people present.
Officers located and seized methylamphetamine, clip seal bags, scales and unlawfully possessed medications.
A vehicle associated with the property was also seized for further investigation.
A 35-year-old South Mackay woman was charged with six drug-related offences. She is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on September 29.
A 42-year-old Westcourt man was charged with three drug-related offences.
A 33-year-old Caravonica man was charged with possessing dangerous drugs. He is expected to appear in court on September 25.
In another incident, officers from the Far North District Tactical Crime Squad observed three people in a vehicle allegedly driving with false plates which had evaded police earlier that day, on September 9 at Palm Cove.
The 19-year-old Manoora man allegedly scaled multiple and resisted arrest, headbutting one officer and spitting in the face of another.
Police searched the vehicle, locating suspected stolen property, methylamphetamines, utensils, a taser, a knife, stolen property and two sets of stolen number plates.
A 22-year-old woman was searched and found in possession of a quantity of methylamphetamines.
She was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs, possess suspected stolen property, possess category R weapon (taser), possess a knife in public and obstruct police.
The 19-year-old Manoora man was charged with two counts of serious assault police and one count each of enter with intent, enter dwelling and commit, stealing, breach of a domestic violence order and obstruct police.
A 27-year-old Edmonton man was charged with one count each of possess dangerous drugs, possess things used in connection with dangerous drugs and obstruct police.
All three are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 25.
Detective Inspector Jason Chetham said the Far North District is grateful for the State Flying Squad's continued assistance in cracking down on property crime.
"We will always welcome State Flying Squad officers to Cairns as we continue to put downwards pressure on property offending in the region," Detective Inspector Chetham said.
"The region has seen significant declines in offences of the past few weeks and support from specialist units across the state supports local police in keeping the community safe."
