Statement from Leader of Opposition 8 August

Liberal Party Victoria

Today, I am pleased to confirm Nick McGowan as my new Chief of Staff.

Across more than three decades of involvement in Liberal politics, Nick has distinguished himself with his strong work ethic, determination and enthusiasm.

Nick has extensive experience in senior positions across both public and private sectors, including as Chief of Staff to former Assistant Treasurer, Gordon Rich-Phillips, my Chief of Staff when I was Planning Minister, Media Director to former Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu and as National Manager, Red Cross BS and a Special Adviser, Office of the Chief Staff to the Secretary-General's Special Representative.

Nick's core beliefs are Liberal ones. He believes in equality, individual responsibility and reward for effort.

Like so many Victorians, Nick understands the importance of the upcoming election and brings a total focus on delivering real solutions for all Victorians.

Upon commencing in this position, Nick's first task will be to develop a Code of Conduct for Opposition Staff in Victoria.

As Nick is a pre-selected Liberal candidate for the North Eastern Metropolitan Region consistent with clause 4.5 of the Ministerial Code of Conduct he won't campaign for his personal election during his ordinary work hours, and consistent with clause 4.4 he will take leave when he lodges his nomination with the VEC.

I am proud to call Nick a colleague and friend and look forward to working together to deliver real solutions for all Victorians.
