Statement from OSA Leadership on Racial and Social Injustices

WASHINGTON -The Optical Society (OSA) leadership has issued the following statement on racial and social injustices.

***

Over the last few days there have been protests in some of our respective neighborhoods, across the US, and in cities around the globe, stemming from the recent killing of George Floyd. The Optical Society (OSA) acknowledges the pain we all feel from his death, and strongly condemns the systemic racism and bias too often inflicted upon Black Americans.

Our organization, in unison with the science and engineering community, holds inclusivity as one of our core values and we are deeply committed to continuing to strengthen diversity. We will work to confront the marginalization and inequitable treatment of all who suffer as a result of unjust and racist policies.

We are guided by our core values and will do what we can to effect change in our communities. This is a time for reflection and understanding. Change happens when we all have the resolve to speak out and act against racial and social injustices.

Be sure to take care of yourselves, your loved ones and each other.

Thank You,

Stephen D. Fantone, OSA President

Elizabeth Rogan, OSA CEO
