Stolen vehicle charges, Broadbeach

Police have charged a 25-year-old Kingscliff man after an alleged stolen vehicle crashed into a power pole at Broadbeach yesterday, June 16.

It will be alleged at approximately 10:45am, the man was driving the Ford Mondeo, reported stolen from a Bilambil Heights, NSW address on June 13, along Surf Parade before he lost control and struck the pole.

It will be further alleged that the driver attempted to leave the area on foot but was restrained by onlookers.

Police arrived a short time later and took the man into custody.

No one was physically injured.

The 25-year-old Kingscliff man has since been charged with one count each of driving under the influence of liquor, drive without due care and attention, driving on a disqualified licence, enter premises and commit, receiving tainted property and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today, June 17.
