Storms Hit West, Coastal Showers Sweep East

BOM
Hello, Ilana here from the Bureau with your National Weather Forecast for tomorrow, Thursday the 2nd of April.

Let's start by taking a look across the country. Now, through the north-east of the country these trade winds will dominate, bringing showers to the Queensland coast and then they'll tend more scattered about the far north of Queensland.

Out west, we're going to see an area of low pressure develop, and that is going to bring showers and thunderstorms to the south-west interior of the continent. Through the south-east of the country another cold front will sweep through later in the day, bringing showery conditions, in particular, to Tasmania. Let's now take a look state by state, starting with Queensland.

Now, in Queensland, this southeasterly flow will bring moisture onshore. So, we'll see some isolated coastal showers north of about Mackay and they will tend scattered north of Cairns. We'll also see some thunderstorms about the far north of Queensland. About the southeast as well, we're likely to see some isolated coastal showers.

Inland, though, it will be another dry, warm day with temperatures about 5°C above average for April, and we'll see sunny, clear conditions. For Brisbane, a top of 28°C and a possible light shower.

Now, looking into New South Wales, it will be a mostly dry day for much of the state. However, there are a couple of areas of exceptions.

So, starting in the north-east here we could see some showers developing along the coast, north of about Port Macquarie, and extending into the adjacent ranges. About the south-east, we may also see some showers and thunderstorms developing about the far southern ranges, associated with a trough in the area.

Canberra, though, will remain dry. It will be a mostly sunny day with a top of 27°C, and for Sydney as well mostly sunny and a top of 27°C.

Now in Victoria, we'll see southwesterly flow which will bring cloud to parts of southern parts. We will also see showers and storms possibly develop in the far east of the state during the afternoon.

Now, there will be a front moving through the Bass Strait later in the day, and that may bring a couple of isolated showers to the western coastal fringe for Victoria. Melbourne, though, may have some fog about the nearby hills in the morning, and then warming up to a mostly sunny day. A top of 24°C.

In Tasmania, we're looking at temperatures a little bit cooler than previous days following the passage of a cold front yesterday, but you guessed it, we'll see yet another cold front tomorrow that will sweep through the state later in the day, bringing showers to western and southern parts.

So, for Hobart, a top of 22°C and a slight chance of seeing one of those late showers. South Australia is seeing the influence of this high pressure ridge, bringing mostly settled dry conditions.

Now, temperatures will be below average through coastal parts of the state. However, they'll remain warm and sunny about the north. So, for Adelaide, a top of 23°C and a mostly sunny day.

Now, through Western Australia, we'll see a trough and low pressure system start to develop about the Gascoyne and Goldfields areas. So, through the interior of the state, we'll see showers and thunderstorms develop.

Now, we could even see some severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts, heavy falls and even some hail. Now, some of those showers and storms may extend into the South West Land Division, but Perth is likely to remain warm, dry and sunny with a top of 27°C.

Having a look at the top end of the country. Now, we'll see a trough start to develop in the Arafura Sea, meaning that showers and storms will start to increase a little bit for the Top End.

So, for Darwin, a top of 35°C and a possible shower or storm. Very different though through the central part of the country, where it will remain dry and warm. So, for Alice, sunny and a top of 32°C.

Now, that's all for our National Weather Forecast today. As always, if you would like some
