Strike Force Vulcan Officers Charge Man Over Shelley Scrub Fires

Strike Force Vulcan investigators have charged a man as a result of their investigation into a series of scrub fires in Shelley on Monday, 1 January 2024.

It will be alleged between 1am and 7am, the man deliberately ignited seven separate scrub fires on the river foreshore, along Riverton Drive North.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and extinguished each fire before they spread.

The 63-year-old man from Willyung has been charged with:-

• Seven counts of Wilfully Light or Cause to be Lit a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage.

Bail was refused and the man is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 2 January 2024.

This offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment.
