It was fantastic to welcome students from Canowindra High School , Molong Central School and Yeoval Central School to this week's Council meeting, where they shared thoughtful ideas and concerns about their communities.
This annual initiative, offered by local schools, sees student representatives attend a Council Ordinary Meeting each year to share their perspectives on community issues. It's a valuable opportunity that strengthens communication between young people and Council, helping ensure their voices are heard in local decision-making.

Molong Central School students raised concerns about the need for safe indoor spaces to study, better library access, and improved traffic safety—including pedestrian crossings and designated parking for older students.

Yeoval Central School students shared their appreciation for Village Enhancement funding and suggested fantastic ideas like more public transport, a community veggie garden, extended tip hours, and a local library for older residents. They also flagged a dangerous intersection at Forbes & Obley Street and gave a shoutout to town presentation officer Aaron Russell for keeping Yeoval looking great!

Canowindra High School students, following a youth forum led by senior students, called for a pedestrian crossing on Rodd Street, more local events like music and markets, and better promotion of regional activities with accessible transport options.

Across all schools, students are asking for safer, more inclusive spaces and stronger collaboration between Council, schools, and the wider community.
