Dozens of local school students will be supported by Shoalhaven Bushcare and Dunecare volunteers to plant native flora across the city during July and August.
The initiative coincides with Planet Ark's Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day at the end of July, which aims to teach students how to care for the natural environment and give back to their community.
"These communal tree planting days are a wonderful opportunity to teach students about the native species that exist in our region and their incredible importance to our local environment," said Mayor Patricia White.
"It also encourages young people to consider our collective footprint and consider the ways we can reduce our long-term impact," Cr White said.
"I'd like to thank our Bushcare and Dunecare volunteers for their important work in caring for our environment and congratulate the local schools and residents who are taking part in this year's tree planting events across Shoalhaven," she said.
Around 30 students from Berry Public School will join volunteers from Boongaree Bushcare Group on Friday 25 July to plant trees propagated at the school's nursery.
Kiama High School students will help revegetate and stabilise sand dunes at the Shoalhaven Heads Surf Club alongside local Bushcare and Dunecare groups on Monday 4 August.
Shoalhaven residents are also encouraged to attend a community tree planting at Mollymook Beach on Sunday 27 July between 10am and 12 noon.
The community event will be supported by Council's Bushcare team, Shoalhaven Landcare, Milton Rural Landcare, Treading Lightly, National Parks Association and Rotary.
Residents must register to attend the community event through the sticky tickets website.
Schools Tree Day will be held on Friday 25 July while National Tree Day occurs on Sunday 27 July and is Australia's largest tree planting and nature care event.
