Education Minister Sabine Winton officially opened the new Sunrise Primary School in the expanding suburb of Wellard today.
The $35.8 million primary school can accommodate 540 students from kindergarten to year 6, and includes five classrooms and shaded play spaces for kindergarten and pre-primary students.
Two double-storey teaching blocks are part of the build. These include 13 classrooms, an inclusive education classroom, science, and art classrooms.
A library resource centre, covered assembly area with music room and canteen, administration block, staff facilities, outdoor play spaces, hardcourts, oval, and a car park complete the facilities.
The new school was designed by Bateman Architects and built by Universal Constructions.
The delivery of Sunrise Primary School forms part of the State Government's commitment to delivering quality education infrastructure for Western Australian students and families, with more than $5.4 billion invested since 2017.
As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:
"I am so pleased to officially open the new Sunrise Primary School, which represents the Cook Labor Government's commitment to providing every child with access to a high-quality public education in a modern, well-designed learning environment.
"Modern classrooms and permanent shade structures over playgrounds are key features to support students to be able to play and learn all year round.
"Facilities like these are not just about bricks and mortar, they are about creating spaces where excellent teaching and learning can thrive."
As stated by Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:
"Today is an exciting milestone for local families, with Sunrise Primary School opening its doors to students.
"As our community continues to grow, this new school will give children the chance to learn close to home in purpose-built facilities.
"I want to thank the school community, staff, and everyone involved in delivering this project. I'm looking forward to seeing Sunrise Primary become a vibrant hub for the community."
