Do you know a local champion or unsung hero who has made a positive impact in the City of Swan community? Nominations are now open for the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

It is time to shine a light on community groups and individuals of all ages who have gone above and beyond to make their community and those around them shine.

You can nominate anyone who has made a difference in education, health, business, sports, arts, the environment, or other areas that enhance community wellbeing.

Stephen Cain, City of Swan CEO, said this was an opportunity to recognise those who give their time and energy to improving their community.

"Let's thank the people in our community who go above and beyond for others and make the City a better place to live, work and visit," he said.

"These are people who, whether it be in their job or volunteer work, lend a hand, go the extra mile and inspire others.

"They may not do it for awards and accolades, but they deserve recognition, and this is your opportunity ensure they are properly acknowledged."

This year's Community Citizen of the Year winner, Dr Pedus Eweama said his recognition inspired others to do more to help community development.

"I have noticed that since I won the award, when I call for people to come out and help, there are more people who are interested in volunteering and wanting to contribute towards the development and enhancement of humanity," he said.

The City of Swan encourages residents, community members and business owners to nominate someone they know worthy of recognition in the following award categories:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (over 16 years)
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (16 - 30 years)
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (65 years or over)

  • made a significant contribution to the local community
  • demonstrated leadership resulting in the enhancement of community life
  • implemented a significant initiative which has brought about positive change and added value to community life
  • inspired the community as a role model.

Nominations close Tuesday, October 31, 2022.
