On Sunday 17th May, the Sydney Comedy Festival wrapped for 2026 with a bang! Firmly cementing its place as one of the country's biggest cultural events, the 2026 Festival delivered packed rooms, sold‑out outdoor festivals and a larger program, presenting 411 shows with close to 1000 performances across Sydney.
In this milestone year, the Sydney Comedy Festival doubled its number of stages in partnership with Destination NSW, and now spans an impressive 57 venues across Sydney, transforming the entire city into one epic comedy playground.
Chief Operating Officer, Sam Nardo said, "Through our work with Destination NSW, we're playing to the strengths of this city, driving visitation into the CBD while also bringing Festival hubs to the doorsteps of our outer suburbs - from Bondi to Penrith, from Sutherland to Chatswood… and sharing stories across cultures, languages and communities. Even with the evolving fuel crisis impacting visitation and consumer confidence, the Festival is proud to have not only met, but smashed its overall attendance goals this year, welcoming more than 175,000 attendees in 2026 and seeing a stronger than ever growth in visitation".
A highlight of the 2026 program was Great Laugh in the Park and Gala on the Green, two major outdoor showcases at Darling Harbour's Tumbalong Park, where the Festival played host to sold-out crowds of more than 7,000 people. These large, high‑energy events showcased comedy at its finest at Australia's only open‑air comedy gala, delivering big laughs, big crowds and an iconic festival feel right in the heart of Sydney. The 2026 Festival also prioritised accessibility and affordable ticket prices for audiences, with an average ticket price costing less than $40.00. Affordability played a major role in driving attendance, keeping the festival accessible to a broad, diverse audience.
Before the Festival had kicked off, ticket sales to visitors from outside Sydney had already surpassed previous records, showcasing the Festival's growing reputation as a major destination event and its growing impact to the visitor economy.
Embracing Sydney's cultural diversity, the 2026 program also featured strong multicultural representation, with 20 shows presented in either another language, bingually, or created specifically for different diasporas across Sydney. The Festival continues to celebrate voices from across communities and create a space for audiences to see their stories, cultures and experiences reflected on stage.
The Sydney Comedy Festival is proudly presented by Young Henry's and supported by the NSW Government through strategic investment by Destination NSW.
