Take Hike Minns

NSW Nationals

The Minns Labor Government is failing NSW families by refusing to rule out a deeply unpopular camping fee hike.

One year on from Labor's outrageous attempts to hike camping fees in National Parks by up to 600%, the Minns Government still has not responded to the 23,000 NSW residents who told them to take a hike as part of the consultation process.

Shadow Minister for Tourism, Kevin Anderson, said Labor released a puff piece last week claiming responsibility for high visitation in National Parks, while still actively considering a proposal that would shut the gate on campers state-wide.

"The Minns Labor Government's camping fee hike proposal would be devastating to NSW families who spend their weekends in the great outdoors for a holiday that doesn't break the bank," Mr Anderson said.

"23,000 people said no to The Minns Labor Government's camping fee hike as part of the consultation process. That should have been a signal to draw a line through this outrageous proposal, but one year on, Labor's done nothing."

In addition to raising camping fees, the Minns Labor Government has begun the process of privatising campsites across the state, including in the Boudi National Park and the Gardens of Stone Conservation Area. According to information provided by the Minns Labor Government, so far private operators have been given no cap on the amount they can charge for these sites.

Shadow Minister for the Environment Jacqui Munro said being immersed in our unique environment is something that Australians value and there is overwhelming evidence that time spent in nature is good for our minds, bodies, and spirits.

"NSW National Parks offer educational opportunities and are a source of pride for Australians, yet Labor are making it harder for people to enjoy time in these beautiful places," Ms Munro said.
