The Tasmanian Government is committed to improving access to justice for all Tasmanians and now that the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TasCAT) Bill 2020 has passed State Parliament this week, the search is non for the TasCAT President.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to find the right person for this new position, with the successful candidate set to become the first ever TasCAT President.
We will be seeking applications from all over the country, and I am confident we will find an experienced and exceptional candidate who will be tasked with the incredible opportunity of leading TasCAT into the future.
Magistrates and experienced legal practitioners who are eligible to be appointed as a magistrate have been invited to submit an expression of interest to be considered for the appointment.
Nine Tasmanian tribunals are already co-located at TasCAT's purpose-built facility in Barrack Street, Hobart, which I officially opened in July 2020, and I am very pleased to have prioritised this significant reform.
This first legislative step will allow existing tribunals to amalgamate and commence operations under the President in or about July 2021.
The appointee will be based in Hobart but may need to sit throughout the State as necessary.
The expressions of interest period closes on 9 November 2020.
