CNC Chaplain Named Honorary Canon

UK Gov

Rev Ian Grainger has been appointed an honorary Canon of Carlisle Cathedral, recognising more than three decades of ministry and chaplaincy service.

The appointment was made during a service led by Rev Rob Saner-Haigh, the Bishop of Carlisle, and reflects Ian's longstanding contribution to the Diocese.

Ordained in 1992, Canon Grainger brings extensive experience across healthcare, emergency services and the military, including service as an Army Reserve chaplain and as lead chaplain to Cumbria Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Service.

Appointed Civil Nuclear Constabulary Force Chaplain in June 2023, Canon Grainger supports officers and staff across the organisation, providing confidential, independent pastoral support in what can be a high-pressure policing environment.

Canon Grainger said: "Becoming an honorary Canon is a real honour. Having grown up and served my entire ministry within this diocese, this recognition means a great deal to me."

Canon Grainger was supported at the service by family, friends, and members of his congregations in Seaton and Camerton.
