Two firearms have been located and seized in an allegedly staged car in Sydney's west under Taskforce Falcon proactive taskings.
Taskforce Falcon was established in May 2025 by State Crime Command to investigate and suppress violent crime in the Sydney metropolitan area.
About 5.45pm on Tuesday 27 May 2025, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were undertaking proactive taskings assigned by Taskforce Falcon when they located an allegedly stolen Mercedes on Junction Street at Guildford.
Police located two firearms during a search of the vehicle – a semi-automatic assault rifle and a handgun. Police also found a jerry can full of fuel, face coverings, and ammunition.
The items were seized, and a crime scene was established, which will undergo forensic examination.
Commander of Taskforce Falcon, Detective Superintendent Jason Box, said the discovery demonstrates how police are not waiting for violence to occur, rather stopping it before it happens.
"The discovery of this vehicle, containing firearms and fuel, is a concerning example of the risks we're working to prevent.
It also shows that Taskforce Falcon is already making a difference—our officers are out there, actively disrupting criminal activity," Det Supt Box said.
"Taskforce Falcon was launched to address organised crime violence, and this early result demonstrates our commitment to being proactive and visible in the community.
"We're encouraging the public to stay alert and report anything that doesn't seem right—particularly unfamiliar or suspicious vehicles in your street. Your information could be vital in helping us prevent harm.
"Community safety is a shared responsibility. With the public's support, we can continue to make inroads and keep our neighbourhoods safe."
