Over 90 people were intercepted as part of a joint operation with Tasmania Police, Rangers from the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) and Transport Tasmania Inspectors. The operation was conducted between Arthur River and Sandy Cape on the State's West Coast over the weekend 10-12 March.
As a result of the operation:
- 2 drink drivers were detected, including a provisional driver who returned a reading of 0.018.
- 10 defect notices were issued for unroadworthy vehicles
- 3 infringement notices were issued for unregistered motor vehicles.
- Infringements were issued for Marine and Safety offences and netting offences.
- PWS Rangers issued several cautions for failing to hold the required permit for driving vehicles in the reserve.
"People want to get away and enjoy what our state has to offer, but often their enjoyment is interrupted by people who feel that the law doesn't apply to them when they are in isolated areas" said Inspector Anthea Maingay.
"This operation sends a clear message that authorities will go to these areas to ensure that everyone can enjoy their break safely."
Tasmania Police, Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Transport Tasmania will continue to target offenders in isolated areas.
