The winners of the third annual Tasmanian Biosecurity Awards have been announced.
The Awards are comprised of two categories, serving as an opportunity to recognise individuals, organisations or businesses that have significantly contributed to the support, maintenance or improvement of biosecurity systems within Tasmania.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, congratulated all who had been nominated for the Awards.
"Biosecurity is vitally important to our island state, and it's a responsibility that falls to all of us," Minister Pearce said.
"Whether you're a business, community group, farmer, or an everyday Tasmanian who goes above and beyond to protect our state – thank you for doing your part to keep Tasmania pest, weed, and disease-free.
"The recipient of this year's Community Biosecurity Award is Lalani Hyatt, a leader of the Rainbow Lorikeet Management Group.
"This important volunteer group is dedicated to the ongoing management of invasive Rainbow Lorikeets in Tasmania, with the aim of eventually eradicating this introduced pest species from our state.
"The recipient of the Industry Biosecurity Award is Nathan Saunders, from Elders Rural Services Tasmania, for his work helping our local livestock industry to remain productive while still meeting its biosecurity duty.
"Nathan's work has helped to strengthen industry confidence and set producers and agents up for compliance with the modern systems Tasmania needs for biosecurity and traceability."
