Tasmanians waiting in pain under Liberals 15 June 2023

Thousands of Tasmanians are living in pain waiting for priority healthcare under this Liberal Government.

Angela Cunningham is one of those, and has been waiting close to two years to see a specialist about the severe pain she suffers in her hands.

Her pain has left her unable to work, and unable to participate in community activities she used to enjoy, such as volunteering at her local neighbourhood centre.

To make things worse, she has great difficulty getting through to anyone when she tries to contact the health system to enquire about the status of her wait.

Sadly, Angela's story is far too common among Tasmanians.

Currently, there are 58,684 patients waiting to see a specialist in Tasmania - 33,000 more than when the Liberals were elected nearly 10 years ago.

In the South, those needing urgent plastic and reconstructive surgery wait on average 26 days while semi-urgent patients wait 343 days and non-urgent patients 610 days.

After ten years of Liberal mismanagement the state's health system is only getting worse, with waitlists for relatively simple procedures far beyond what's acceptable.

Jeremy Rockliff is the Premier and Health Minister, and if he was going make a positive difference to Tasmanian health outcomes, he would have done so by now.
