Teen charged after 57km pursuit, NSW

A teenager has been charged after allegedly leading police on a 57km pursuit in the state’s south yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just after 8pm (Saturday 2 June 2018), officers from Wagga Wagga Traffic & Highway Patrol Command attended Blakemore Street, Ashmore, following reports of a possible stolen vehicle in the area.

The officers sighted a red Suzuki 4wd travelling west on Blakemore Street. When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle for a random breath test, the driver accelerated away and a pursuit was commenced.

The vehicle was pursued onto the Stuart Highway for approximately 57km through Collingullie and Galore, before the driver stopped about 2km east of the intersection with Lockhart Road.

A 17-year-old teenager from Griffith was arrested at the scene. Subsequent checks with the owner established the Suzuki was a stolen vehicle.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga police station and charged with take & drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law), never licenced person drive vehicle on road and several outstanding warrants.

The teenager was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court today (Sunday 3 June 2018).
