Teen Charged for Intentionally Setting Tamworth Fires

A teen will face court next month charged over deliberately lightning fires and throwing a projectile at police in the state's northeast.

Between 1pm and 11pm, yesterday (Monday 23 October 2023), emergency services responded to eighteen calls for deliberately lit fires around a community centre on Quinn Street, Tamworth.

About 8pm, officers attached to Oxley Police District were in attendance when a projectile was thrown at their vehicle. A teen was seen to run from the area to a near-by group at the centre.

A 13-year-old girl was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

She was charged with two counts of intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread and throw missile at police officer executing duty no actual bodily harm.

The teen was given conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Tuesday 7 November 2023.

Inquiries are continuing.
