Teenager charged after Diamond Creek carjacking

Banyule Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a teenager following an alleged car-jacking incident in Diamond Creek over the weekend.

A 16-year-old Watsonia girl has been charged with carjacking, assaulting a police officer, possession of drugs and other driving offences.

It is alleged a woman was driving a vehicle on Bruce Street, before allegedly being stopped by a teenager who was armed with a weapon about 9.40pm on Sunday, 21 August.

Police were told the girl stole the vehicle and fled the scene in the car.

The allegedly stolen car was involved in a single vehicle crash a short time later on Diamond Creek Road, where the 16-year-old girl was arrested.

She will appear at a Children's Court at a later date.
