Minister for Seniors Jinson Charls has launched the 2026 Seniors Month Calendar, featuring over 250 events during August.
Backed by $69,000 in grants from the Finocchiaro CLP Government, the 2026 Seniors Month Calendar delivers a busy program to keep older Territorians active and connected.
Distribution of 8,000 printed calendars and a new digital portal is underway, unveiling the full August 2026 Seniors Month program across the Territory.
Minister for Youth, Seniors and Equality Jinson Charls today launched the 2026 Seniors Month Calendar, bringing over 250 fun and engaging events to seniors right across the Territory in August.
Backed by $69,000 in grants from the Finocchiaro CLP Government, the calendar delivers a busy program to keep older Territorians active and connected.
Minister Charls joined COTA NT CEO Sue Shearer to launch the 2026 Seniors Month Calendar, an annual guide produced for the Government connecting older Territorians, families, and carers to local activities.
Events run from 1 to 31 August 2026 across Darwin, Palmerston, the rural area, Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, and Mataranka.
To support participation, the NT Government injected $69,000 through the Seniors Month Grants Program, providing up to $2,000 for 35 community-led initiatives across Darwin, Palmerston, Greater Darwin, Wagait Beach, Coomalie, Katherine, and Alice Springs.
The month-long lineup spans arts, health, social gatherings, and lifelong learning. Events include Argentinian tango classes, Darwin High School's Seniors' Morning of Entertainment, and the Alice Springs Seniors Expo.
Organisers have distributed 8,000 printed calendars through libraries, community centres, government and electorate offices, retirement villages, and local venues, alongside an interactive online digital calendar.
Minister Charls said August was one of his favourite times of the year putting older Territorians front and centre.
"Senior Territorians have helped shape the communities we live in today, and these events give them opportunities to stay active, connected, and involved in the Territory lifestyle they helped build," the Minister said.
"It also builds real connections by creating opportunities for people to come together, stay active, learn new skills, and stay involved in community life.
"With more than 250 events across the Territory, we're calling on more seniors to jump into activities that support their wellbeing, independence, and sense of belonging.
"Restoring our lifestyle starts with looking after the people who built it which is why the CLP Government is delivering over 250 ways for senior Territorians to stay active and involved."
COTA NT Chief Executive Officer Sue Shearer said: "Every year we see organisations across the Territory create wonderful opportunities for older Territorians to come together, learn new skills, celebrate Territory culture, and build social connections.
"The calendar brings all of these opportunities together in one place, making it easy for seniors, families, and carers to find activities that interest them."
