Third man charged over attempted armed robbery at Armidale

A third man has been charged by detectives investigating an alleged attempted armed robbery in the state's New England region last week.

The manager of a hotel was confronted last Thursday morning (9 January 2020), by two armed men who demanded cash.

Officers attached to New England Police District responded and arrested an 18-year-old man in a stolen car outside the business, and a 26-year-old man was arrested a few hours later at a home on Niagra Street, Armidale.

Detectives established Strike Force Fryer to investigate armed robberies throughout New England Police District and, shortly before 9am today (Thursday 16 January 2020), arrested a 27-year-old man at a home on Marsh Street, Armidale.

The 27-year-old man has been charged with three counts of armed robbery, two counts of take and drive conveyance, and one of aggravated break and enter.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Armidale Local Court today.

The other two men remain before the court on charges relating to the same incidents.
