Yesterday, the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, and Karsten Wildberger, Germany's Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernization, met for the first co-chairs' meeting of the Sovereign Technology Alliance (STA) on the margins of ALL IN, where Germany is the 2026 Country of Honour.
The meeting served as a milestone to operationalizing the STA, the construction of a platform through which Canada, Germany and trusted partners will cooperate to strengthen sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The ministers took stock of interest from prospective members in the STA, agreeing to continue close collaboration towards a launch with founding members in the coming months.
Through the STA co-chairs' meeting Canada and Germany are building on the Canada-Germany Digital Alliance announced in December 2025, and the Canada-Germany Joint Declaration of intent on artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation, which anchor growing bilateral cooperation. The STA reflects both countries' joint commitment to working with countries and organizations that wish to partner to build a more diverse and trusted AI ecosystem, and together deepen our sovereignty, economic security and prosperity.
