Third Man Extradited Over Yorketown Robbery

A third man has been extradited from New South Wales as part of an ongoing investigation into an aggravated robbery at Yorketown last year.

On Thursday 29 October, Yorke Mid North detectives, with assistance from New South Wales Police, arrested a 37-year-old man in Broken Hill before extraditing him to South Australia.

He has been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, aggravated robbery, aggravated causing harm and unlawful detention. He is expected to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court today.

The arrest follows the extradition of two other men, aged 55 and 51, in March this year in relation to the same investigation.

Police will allege that on 23 February 2025, three men attended a rural property on St Vincent Highway at Yorketown where they threatened the 74-year-old occupant with a firearm before stealing 14 firearms and approximately $1 million in cash.

The victim suffered head injuries and was treated at Yorketown Hospital.

The three suspects were arrested by New South Wales Police the following day after being stopped in a white Hyundai van on the Barrier Highway near Broken Hill. Police allegedly recovered the stolen firearms, a large quantity of cash and other items linked to the Yorketown break-in.

Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au and quote reference 91419.
