This week, NSF Director Sethuraman Panchanathan joined a Biden-Harris administration signing ceremony to launch new funding for "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022" programs, including the once-in-a-generation National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC), and met with the science minister of Denmark to discuss potential collaborations.
The director gathered Friday with leaders from the White House, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology to announce an investment of over $5 billion in the next phase of CHIPS research and development programs.
The center is a public-private innovation platform and the centerpiece of the #CHIPSforAmerica program to supercharge the nation's semiconductor industry by seeding new industries based on advanced chip technologies.
"The NSTC is essential to how we speed cutting-edge research and development, strengthen the semiconductor workforce and ensure that our semiconductor industry can continue to support American innovation, national security, competitiveness and economic growth," said Panchanathan.
On Thursday, the director met with Christina Egelund of the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science to explore potential collaborations in the areas of quantum, the green transition, life sciences and innovation.
