Three Charged with 77 Offences in Cross-District Burglaries

Detectives from the Rapid Apprehension Squad have apprehended and charged three people as part of their ongoing investigation into a series of incidents that occurred between Saturday 29 April and Tuesday 2 May 2023 in the Perth metropolitan area.

The three charged persons, a 12-year-old boy (33 offences) and a 16-year-old boy (35 offences), both from Girrawheen, and a 13-year-old boy from Belmont (9 offences), are alleged to have been involved in the below listed incidents. They have been charged with a combined total of 77 offences and are due to appear before the Perth Children's Court this morning, 3 May 2023.

The charges include Aggravated Burglary and Commit, Aggravated Burglary with Intent, Steal a Motor Vehicle, Attempt to Steal a Motor Vehicle, Stealing, Criminal Damage by Fire, Steal Motor Vehicle and Reckless Driving, Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit, Fail to Stop (circumstance of aggravation), and No Authority to Drive.

About 11.40pm on Monday 1 May 2023, Rapid Apprehension Squad officers attempted to stop a Mazda CX9 – believed to stolen – on Mirrabooka Avenue in Koondoola. It is alleged the driver of the Mazda failed to stop and an evade police incident commenced. Officers with the assistance of Police Air-Wing, monitored the Mazda as it travelled through the metropolitan area.

About 12.25am on Tuesday 2 May 2023, the Mazda was stopped by police at a service station on Albany Highway in Gosnells.

About 11.30pm on Saturday 29 April 2023, a white Hyundai Santa Fe was stolen from a property on Purslowe Street in Mount Hawthorn and was subsequently involved in a number of cross district burglary and stealing offences. About 6.30am on Sunday 30 April 2023 the stolen Hyundai Santa Fe was located burnt out in the middle of the road on Corin Way in Wattleup.

Between 1.30am and 5.30am on Sunday, 30 April 2023, around 12 burglaries have been reported to police at a number of commercial addresses in various suburbs including Lake Coogee, Duncraig, Gwelup, Mount Pleasant, Hamilton Hill and Swanbourne. During the burglary incident in Swanbourne, a white Hyundai TQ station sedan was stolen. The vehicle was later located, abandoned in Medina.
