Time for Ferguson to answer question 28 June 2023

Tas Labor

Today, Michael Ferguson has the opportunity to finally set the record straight.

Is he going to challenge Jeremy Rockliff for the Liberal Party leadership? If not, he needs to rule out challenging for the Liberal Party leadership.

Michael Ferguson should understand that a stable political environment is critical to business confidence. All the recent resignations and defections have led to deteriorating confidence in this government and a forecast economic growth of just 0.4%.

Today, he must make it very clear what his intentions are. Will he rule out challenging Jeremy Rockliff once and for all?

Given the turmoil in the Liberal Party over the past two years, Tasmanians need to start seeing some stability.

The Liberal Party has lost six members from its Caucus and four from the Ministry:

  • Adam 'Terry' Brooks
  • Sarah Courtney
  • Jane Howlett (from the Ministry)
  • Peter Gutwein
  • Jacqui Petrusma
  • Lara Alexander
  • John Tucker

More importantly, after almost 10 years in office, Jeremy Rockliff has lost the Liberals their majority. That is bad for business confidence and bad for our state.
