Atlantic Canada's tourism industry is vital to the region's economy and supports thousands of local jobs and businesses. The Government of Canada is investing to help municipalities like the Town of St. Anthony improve tourism infrastructure and create economic opportunities in the region.

Governments support tourism growth in St. Anthony

Today, the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced $442,353 for the Town of St. Anthony. The Honourable Krista Lynn Howell, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, on behalf of the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, also announced a $170,649 investment from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

This funding will allow the town to implement Phase I of its beautification plan and create new tourism opportunities. This project includes making the entrance to the town more welcoming for visitors; upgrading the Fishing Point Park waterfront walkway; creating a new lookout that overlooks St. Anthony Harbour; and marketing. Together, the upgrades will foster a sense of positivity and excitement upon arrival for visitors and cruise ships. This will help grow the town's status as a key tourism destination and a service hub for the area.

Today's announcement demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to helping Atlantic Canadian communities realize their tourism potential, attract more visitors and contribute to a strong and swift economic recovery.
