Townsville Region Hydrogen Hub grants open in March 2023 and you can preview the guidelines now

The Australian Government is delivering on its commitment to support the development of a hydrogen hub in the Townsville region.

A $70 million grant program will open in March 2023. Producers, consumers, and potential exporters of hydrogen across industrial, transport, export and energy markets can prepare with the guidelines available on business.gov.au.

There will be a 2 stage open competitive assessment process:

  • an initial expression of interest stage where the relative merit and business case of applications will be assessed
  • short listed applicants can then submit a full proposal.

The hub will support Australia's transition to a clean energy economy, create jobs and encourage decarbonisation in hard-to-abate sectors, such as industrial processing and transport.

With this grant program, the government's planned investment in hydrogen hubs is now more than $525 million, including the $454 million Regional Hydrogen Hubs program for projects across Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania.
