Trainee Colby skills up for future

Horsham's Colby McDonald has achieved her Certificate III in Business after completing a traineeship within Horsham Rural City Council's human resources (HR) department.

Despite intending to take a break after finishing her secondary education in 2022, Ms McDonald elected to build her skills, and with the help of Skillinvest, Colby found herself in a Council traineeship, overcoming initial nerves with excitement as she explored her new role.

The former St Brigid's College student credits the traineeship program for helping her achieve her goals.

"I was seeking work that would develop my skills and experience, and I feel like the program has laid the foundation for my professional journey, providing hands-on experience and skill development," Ms McDonald said.

"I had a wonderful time, the team in HR is amazing, they are exceptional at what they do and they keep the office lighthearted and fun.

"I couldn't have asked for a better team," she said

HRCC works with Horsham-based training organisation SkillInvest to offer traineeships and apprenticeships in a variety of career paths.

Current trainees are employed in administration and community service areas, horticulture, information technology and civil construction.
