Trauma-Informed Care Key for Ukraine's Rebuilding Efforts

CoE/the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe

Future needs of returned children, their rehabilitation and reintegration, including trauma-informed care was the focus of the intervention by the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the situation of children of Ukraine Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjord Gylfadóttir at a conference in Helsinki on 15 May.

"The ugly reality of our times is simple: without trauma-informed care for children of Ukraine, any reconstruction efforts would represent an almost empty promise on rebuilding Ukraine. It's not enough to rebuild roads, bridges and energy infrastructure. To truly rebuild after a war, you must rebuild the true worth of a nation, the human beings; the children, our future, the future of Ukraine", Special Representative stated.

The conference organised by the Social Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and by the Finnish Parliament focused on European action in support of Ukrainian children deported to Russia or Belarus.
