Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is celebrating the opening of the recently upgraded Joseph Leadbetter skate park by holding a community event on Saturday, 12 July 2025.
The 'Skate ReVibe' event, hosted by TRC's Youth Connect from 10am to 1pm, will showcase the new contemporary skate park and encourage skateboarders of all ages and experiences to learn new skills by watching Australian professional skateboarder Dani Campbell demo some gnarly tricks.
Youth Connect has also teamed up with Songline Skateboarding and Summit Skateboarding Club to facilitate workshops for people interested in sharpening their skills or wanting to try the sport for the first time.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tim McMahon said Skate ReVibe was a chance for the community to enjoy a fun, light-hearted event.
"I encourage everyone to attend the upcoming get-together. Bring along your friends and family, meet some local skateboarding legends and enjoy a free sausage sizzle. It's going to be a lot of fun," Cr McMahon said.
Cr McMahon said the recent upgrades to the Joseph Leadbetter skate park were going to have a significant impact on the Toowoomba Region community.
"This newly redeveloped skate park represents a dynamic space where our youth can engage with their friends in a positive way, improving their social and physical wellbeing."
The skate park recently underwent a $815,000 revamp after completing community consultation during the 2020/21 financial year. The redevelopment has made the skate park compliant under current Australian Standards, replacing the pre-existing skate bowl and upgrading the surrounding area to include appropriate amenities such as an upgraded shelter and water bubblers.
Cr McMahon thanked the community for their patience during the construction of the new skate park and thanked the Youth Connect team for organising a sensational opening event to mark the occasion.
