Below are simple tips on reducing energy consumption and our reliance on fossil fuels. Small, imperfect, collective actions, repeated often, creates big change.
Easy Tips for a Renewable, and NetZero Future
- Using Solar Energy – Consider installing solar on your home. If you have solar installed and you are not home during the day, utilise the timer function on your appliances so they run during the day while the sun is powering your home.
- Install LED bulbs – They use 80% less energy and last much longer than incandescent light bulbs.
- Choose energy efficient appliances – Understand the energy ratings and look for energy efficiency when buying fridges, washers, or heaters.
- Turn off lights and appliances when not in use – Appliances and electronics can continue to use electricity even when they are not being used or in standby mode. Unplugging or switching an appliance off at the wall can save you up to 15% of your electricity bill!
- Install a heat pump – A heat pump uses up to 70% less energy than gas hot water heaters. Government incentives are currently available for hot water system upgrades.
- Choose renewable energy – Consider switching to a green power plan and switch to clean electricity made from wind, solar, or hydro.
