Tuncurry water playground concept plan

MidCoast Council

The final concept plan for Tuncurry's water playground is now available for the community to review and provide feedback until Thursday 23 February 2022.

Executive Manager Community Spaces, Daniel Aldridge says that MidCoast Council has taken great care and time in choosing a contractor and developing the concept plan for the playground, to ensure it realises the community's vision for the play space.

"We've taken on board the very extensive feedback we received during previous consultations, and ensured that we've incorporated as much of the feedback as possible in delivering this project," he said.

NSW-based company Parkequip has been chosen to design and install the playground – the world's largest distributor of waterplay solutions.

"The final plan combines discovery, exploration and adventure play zones to provide a variety of experiences suitable for all ages and abilities, " Mr Aldridge explained.

Inclusivity has been at the forefront of the design process, incorporating universal design goals to ensure everyone can enjoy this playground, which has a unique design unlike any other in NSW.

"Ensuring this playground is an all-ability, inclusive facility was a very strong element of community feedback on this project," said Mr Aldridge.

The design is based on seven principles of universal design – equitable use, flexibility in use, simple and intuitive use, perceptible information, tolerance for user error, low physical effort, and appropriate sizing and space for use.

In previous consultations, the community also highlighted the need to ensure the design was water-wise. The new playground is a sustainable choice which recycles water onsite, passing through full filtration and chlorination processes and returning clean water to the playground.

The project has been made possible thanks to over $850,000 in funding from the Australian Government, with Council funds providing the balance of the $2 million project.

Demolition of the existing amenities and swimming pool is expected to commence in February 2022 with the construction of the water playground and amenities to commence in April 2022.

Everyone is invited to view the final concept plan on the link above before the consultation ends on Thursday 23 February 2022.

You can submit your feedback via the submission form online at the link above or by post to MidCoast Council, PO Box 482 Taree NSW 2430.
