Twelve apprehended - Maningrida

Police in Maningrida have apprehended 12 alleged offenders in an on-going operation, Northern Territory Police say.

During a patrol of the Maningrida Access Road on Saturday, six vehicles were apprehended over the course of eight hours.

Charges include driving while disqualified, driving unlicensed, possessing cannabis, kava and alcohol as well as offences relating to firearms.

Superintendent of Northern Division Warren Jackson praised the efforts of Maningrida members.

"Leaders in remote communities have raised concerns about the problems arising from drugs and alcohol on their streets," he said.

"Police will continue to target people who prey on the vulnerable and ignore the considerable social and economic harm they are causing."
