Two Charged in Newcastle Drug Supply Probe

Two women have been charged with alleged drug supply offences following an extensive investigation by Northern Region police.

In July 2025, the Hunter Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Carrolup to investigate the alleged supply of drugs in the Newcastle area.

Following extensive inquiries, RES officers – assisted by the Hunter DV High-Risk Offender Team and Newcastle City Highway Patrol – stopped a vehicle on the M1 at Wyong about 6.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 12 August 2025).

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allegedly located and seized 506g cocaine, 12.1g methamphetamine, assorted prescription medication, pepper spray, and $2,325 cash.

Two women – both aged 23 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Wyong Police Station.

Following further inquiries, officers – assisted by Hunter UTAH – executed two search warrants: one at a unit on Watt Street in Newcastle, and another at a unit on Riverside Drive in Mayfield West.

As a result of the search warrants, police allegedly located and seized 852g GBL, 658g cannabis, 567g MDMA, 257g cocaine, 122g psilocybin, 60g methamphetamine, assorted prescription medication, a pistol, electronic stun device, ammunition, and $19,000 cash.

One of the women was charged with 32 offences:

  • Possess prohibited drug (12 counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity (seven counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than or equal to commercial quantity (three counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than small and less than or equal to indictable quantity (two counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug less than or equal to small quantity
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime (two counts)
  • Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance (two counts)
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Possess unauthorised pistol, and
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Wednesday 13 August 2025), where she was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Friday 15 August 2025.

The other woman was charged with 18 offences:

  • Possess prohibited drug (six counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity (three counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than or equal to commercial quantity (two counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than small and less than or equal to indictable quantity
  • Supply prohibited drug less than or equal to small quantity
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime (two counts)
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (two counts), and
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Wednesday 13 August 2025), where she was formally refused bail to appear before the same court tomorrow (Thursday 14 August 2025).
