Two injured in Smithfield crash

An investigation is underway after two people were injured following a serious crash in Sydney's south-west this morning.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of The Horsley Drive and Dublin Street at Smithfield about 5.15am (Friday 9 October 2020), after reports a Subaru Impreza sedan travelling west and a Hyundai i30 sedan travelling east had collided.

The Hyundai driver – a 71-year-old man – was treated at the scene for serious leg injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Subaru – a 17-year-old man – returned a negative breath test and was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was also examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

As inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue, anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or stopped to assist, are urged to come forward.
