Two Men Arrested, $1M+ Drugs Seized in Newcastle Sting

Two men have been charged with drug trafficking offences following a vehicle stop near Newcastle today.

About 11.45am (Tuesday 15 August 2023), officers from the Hunter Region Enforcement Squad stopped a utility on Apprentice Close, Beresfield, and spoke with the driver - a 19-year-old man - and his passenger - a 20-year-old man.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized 1.8kg of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $1,080,000.

Both men were arrested at the scene and taken to Maitland Police Station.

There they were charged with traffic in commercial quantity of controlled drug, and take part supply prohibited drug - large commercial quantity.

Both were refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 16 August 2023).
