The Commission met for the fifth time, on Tuesday 13 December 2022, following the conclusion of a series of stakeholder events hosted across the UK and the closing of the Public Consultation on 5 December.
The Commission reviewed these responses alongside the findings from the various events held with groups and organisations that were affected or played a key part in the response to the pandemic to help inform the set of recommendations currently under consideration. More recently, the Commission hosted an event to engage with young people. An event was also hosted to hear from the Science community.
The Commission is considering several ideas such as holding a day of reflection and recommending for there to be a Covid symbol. Other ideas under consideration include that of a Covid Commemoration website to promote the day of reflection, provide details of local memorials and commemorative activity and more, and that of teaching about Covid in schools. All these ideas have received wide support from both the events held and the public consultation.
The Commission will now turn its focus on agreeing a final set of recommendations to include in its report to the Prime Minister by March next year.
The Commission will meet again in January.
