The University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is now re-opened to the public with four new contemporary art exhibitions on display.

Clouds of Ink, Pools of Colour presents recent work by the master splashed ink painter Hou Beiren. His painted panoramas are filled with playful and elegiac meditations on the theme of the Chinese landscape expressed in luminescent swirls of colour and cascades of ink, a theme to which he has returned numerous times over recent decades.

Period: From now until July 26, 2020 (Sunday)

Mountain Taoist displays six newly donated works by Wesley Tongson (1957–2012), who was known both for his traditional ink work and unique style of finger painting. This exhibition combines both techniques, including his mountain landscapes and bamboo paintings, which together document his imaginative move from brush to finger.

Landscapes and Other Natural Occurrences is one of the first significant solo exhibitions of Chak's work to be displayed in Hong Kong. Known primarily for his landscapes, Chak paints the forms of the natural world in abstract and poetic ways. The UMAG exhibition highlights both his larger two-panel canvases and smaller works on paper as a way to illustrate the artist's evolution of thought.

Metamorphosis or Confrontation is Tobias Klein's exploration of 3D printing applications in architecture, art, design and interactive media installations. This exhibition traces Klein's work over the past decade and is structured in four distinct areas: Bones, Masks, Mutations and Forces. Each theme unravels the relationships and evolution of the artist's body of work, while at the same time demanding that visitors take a position of negotiation, evolution or confrontation.

Period: May 20, 2020 (Wednesday) to August 30, 2020 (Sunday)
