GENEVA - The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold an urgent debate on "the recent military aggression launched by Iran against Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on 28 February 2026, targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, which has resulted in the loss of innocent lives".
The urgent debate will be held on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, starting at 9:00 am (GMT+1) in the Assembly Hall at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The meeting is open to the media and will be webcast live on webtv.un.org in the six official languages of the UN.
The urgent debate is being convened following an official request submitted on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 by Bahrain on behalf of the Cooperation Council for Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) and Jordan. The request states that the group of countries intends to present a draft resolution to the Council, in connection with the urgent debate.
The programme of work of the ongoing 61st regular session of the Human Rights Council has been adjusted to include this urgent debate. This urgent debate does not require signatories or formal notifications as is the case for special sessions.
This will be the 11th urgent debate of the Human Rights Council since its creation in 2006.
