Unidentified Object - Green Head - Final Update

WA Police Force has successfully coordinated the removal of a large unidentified object from the beach at Green Head, between Jurien Bay and Leeman.
A member of the public located the object on Saturday 15 July 2023, and reported it to police the following afternoon. The object was cordoned off from the public while the identification process was commenced. It has since been rendered safe and was removed from the beach to an undisclosed location yesterday, Tuesday 18 July 2023.
Contrary to speculation, there is no evidence to support the theory that the object is connected in any way to a commercial aircraft. After extensive consultation with state and national agencies with expertise in maritime, aviation, defence and space industries, it is believed the object is related to a rocket system, and the Australian Space Agency will now take over the ongoing assessment and identification of the object.
A spokesperson for the Australian Space Agency said "The Australian Space Agency has determined the object is most likely a solid rocket motor casing. The Agency is continuing the process of determining the type of rocket and its origin."
Inspector Geoff DeSanges from WA Police Force said all necessary precautions were taken to ensure the community was kept safe while the object was being assessed and subsequently removed from the beach.
"Due to the initial assessment of the object indicating it was space industry related, and could potentially be space debris, additional precautions were taken to ensure the object posed no danger to the community. All necessary measures have been taken to mitigate any potential hazards and the object is now safely contained and stored while the Australian Space Agency works to confirm its origin."
