UNITAR Launches Prosperity Alliance in Shenzhen

UNITAR signed an agreement with China (Shenzhen) International Personnel Training Center to launch the Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (Greater Bay Area).

    8 May 2025, Shenzhen, China - On 11 April 2025, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) signed a letter of agreement with China (Shenzhen) International Personnel Training Center to inaugurate the UNITAR Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (Greater Bay Area [GBA]). The partnership marks a significant step in advancing the organizations' common mission to support education, innovation and sustainable development.

    UNITAR Division for Prosperity Director Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto and Mr. Lin Yufeng, Executive Deputy Director of the China (Shenzhen) International Personnel Training Center, signed a letter of agreement on behalf of their organizations at the signing ceremony, held at the Shenzhen Reform and Opening Up Executive Leadership Academy.

    Uniting UNITAR's resources with Shenzhen's innovation ecosystem, the Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (GBA) Center will focus on technological collaboration, digital transformation, talent development and international communication to support sustainable growth in the Greater Bay Area.

    Ms. Kumamoto called Shenzhen a "miracle city" and a global leader in sustainable economic development, urging its innovative model to be shared worldwide. As strategic partners, UNITAR and the Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (GBA) will bolster the city's growth by enabling stakeholders to co-create innovative solutions to pressing challenges.

    In Shenzhen, Ms. Kumamoto visited several institutions to observe the city's achievements in youth development, technological innovation and urban planning. At the Experimental Education Group Qiaoxiang School, Ms. Kumamoto attended its Model United Nations Conference and handed out awards to outstanding students. She toured Da Jiang Innovations Science and Technology Co., Ltd. in Nanshan District, where she examined drone innovations showcasing Shenzhen's work in advancing frontier technology. Ms. Kumamoto also visited Nanshan Study in Lixiang Park, which illustrates Shenzhen's approach to urban design, featuring sustainability and community engagement.

    UNITAR looks forward to collaborating and supporting the city through Prosperity Alliance Shenzhen (GBA). The Alliance looks to deliver youth programmes, global exchanges and professional training for officials and, in 2025, plans to expand partnerships to amplify Shenzhen's expertise in global knowledge-sharing and institutional development.
