Up To $12.6 Million For New Regional Community Housing

  • Infrastructure Development Fund supporting a further three key worker and community housing projects, helping to deliver up to 160 dwellings
  • Sites located in Carnarvon, Greater Geraldton, and East Pilbara
  • Cook Government delivering more social, affordable and community housing

The Cook Government's Infrastructure Development Fund (IDF) continues to address barriers to delivering key worker accommodation and community housing in the regions, with an injection of up to $12.6 million allocated across three new projects.

The latest round of Stream 3 funding will assist with essential infrastructure costs for up to 140 key worker dwellings in Greater Geraldton, 10 key worker dwellings in Carnarvon, and a combination of 10 community and key worker dwellings at the Kiwirrkurra Community in the East Pilbara.

Stream 3 of the IDF was focused on resolving complex water, wastewater and electricity infrastructure constraints impacting the development of key worker and community housing in regional Western Australia.

Over $35.8 million has been committed through Stream 3, supporting the delivery of around 900 new key worker or community housing dwellings across the regions.

The IDF is part of the Cook Government's $6.3 billion housing spend since 2021 to ensure more Western Australians have a place to call home.

Comments attributed to Treasurer Rita Saffioti:

"The Cook Government is investing to deliver more homes right across WA, including increasing the supply of key worker accommodation in our regional communities.

"The Infrastructure Development Fund will help deliver the essential infrastructure needed to get projects off the ground and is now expected to unlock a further 900 homes in regional WA.

"By supporting housing in our regions, we're also supporting the workforce, industries and economic growth that underpin Western Australia's economy."

Comments attributed to Planning and Lands Minister John Carey:

"This latest allocation will provide up to $12.6 million to support the delivery of 160 new dwellings for key workers and community housing in the Mid West, Gascoyne, and East Pilbara.

"Our government acknowledges that many housing projects in regional WA face feasibility challenges and this investment demonstrates how we're supporting industry to overcome those hurdles.

"It's part of our record $6.3 billion housing investment since 2021, which also includes the $25 million Regional Housing Support Fund and other significant investments in regional housing."

As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:

"It's great to see projects in the East Pilbara benefit from this important investment to overcome the costs of connecting to utilities and delivering more secure housing locally.

"Our government is doing everything it can to unlock more land for housing in regional WA and help get projects that will deliver more homes off the ground."
